W zamierzeniu Redakcji przygotowana publikacja miała za cel uzupełnić istniejącą literaturę przedmiotu w zakresie polityki bezpieczeństwa wielu państw azjatyckich. Dzisiaj bowiem istotne jest, aby dostrzegając różnice wynikające m.in. z przyjęcia różnych strategii politycznych i militarnych, wielkości potencjałów produkcyjnych oraz obronnych, uwarunkowań regionalnych, analizować sytuację polityczną i gospodarczą Azji z uwzględnieniem, w większym niż dotychczas stopniu, właśnie czynnika militarnego.
