Sport is more than a competition – it is a powerful engine for urban trans-formation, economic vitality, social cohesion, and cultural identity. Across China, cities are increasingly leveraging sport not only to boost their visibility on the global stage but also to stimulate inclusive development, regenerate neighborhoods, foster public health, and enhance civic pride. The book Sport and the City: The Impact of Sport on China’s Urban Evolution explores how sport has become a dynamic driver of change in China’s urban landscape. Drawing on 36 case studies, this volume presents a panoramic view of how Chinese cities – ranging from megacities like Beijing and Shanghai to his-torically rich centers such as Xi’an and culturally diverse locations like Urumqi – integrate sport into their development strategies. All chapters comprising this book are written by young scholars, mainly representing Beijing Sport Uni-versity and Communication University of China. Together, these contributions illustrate how sport contributes to multiple dimensions of urban life, including infrastructure, technology, sustainability, tourism, health, and education.
